Legislative Focus: Appropriations, House Leadership Elections

With the election recess coming to an end this week, the Senate and House return to a lame duck session with several must-address issues, including FY 2017 appropriations and the National Defense Authorization Act. During the lame duck Congress could also consider the 21st Century Cures Act (H.R. 6), tax extenders, and the Water Resources Development Act.

On Tuesday the House will take up four bills under suspension of the rules. Later in the week, the House will consider the Midnight Rules Relief Act (H.R. 5982) that would allow an incoming Congress to consider a resolution to disapprove of multiple rules submitted during the final year of an outgoing administration. House leadership elections will also occur this week.

Senate Floor: Convenes on Monday at 5:30 p.m. ET for a pro forma session.

House Floor: Convened at 2 p.m. for consideration of eight bills under suspension of the rules, with first votes expected at 6:30 p.m.
